Course content
The course in fulfilled individually based on the recommendation of the guarantor. Recommended actions include 1. excursion to the capital city of Dresden 2. other excursions organised by the department or carried out individually 3. a visit to the exhibition "Our Germans" in Ústí nad Labem or other relevant exhibitions related to contemporary German art 4. author readings 5. film performances 6. music festivals and concerts, etc. The emphasis is on getting to know the contemporary German cultural scene as well as on Czech-German cultural relations in the Elbe/Labe border region.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to enable students to get acquainted with contemporary German culture, not only through the study of relevant literature, but especially through their own experience, for which there are many opportunities in the unversity town of Ústí nad Labem, located 30 km from the border of the Free State of Saxony. For the course, it is possible to take advantage of the current offers of the Department of German Studies, which include excursions, as well as cultural events offered by institutions such as the Goethe-Institut or the Austrian Cultural Forum in Prague.
The student will gain insight into the contemporary culture and cultural scene of the neighbouring state of Germany based on his/her own experience and supplemented by self-study from appropriately selected secondary literature.
