Learning outcomes
Through seminars, lectures and independent study, students will acquire a chronological overview of key events in the political history and cultural development of German-speaking society from the early Middle Ages to the rise of the nation communities in the Habsburg Empire, and the creation of the German Reich in 1871. There will be a special focus on Czech-German relations. Another goal is to introduce the significant figures from German cultural history, and their role in the collective national consciousness of today's Germans and Austrians.

It must summarise the content of the book, describe its goals, and critically engage with the author's claims and arguments.
