In tracing the history of the fairy tale and setting it in its contemporary context, we will address questions of virtuality and authenticity, the social function of storytelling, and the possiblility and horizon of interpretive approaches to literature. Prerequisite to the course is the elementary knowledge of literary terminology and an active ability to apply it to the text.
