Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the form of contemporary culture, which is often referred to as visual culture, and with the form of contemporary art that grows out of this culture. The course introduces students to the basic terminology and ideas of theorists of contemporary culture, explains why contemporary culture is called visual culture and describes the causes of this culture and its implications for contemporary art. Art will be presented as a cultural phenomenon and its links to the cultural background will be explained. The course will focus on the most important method of artistic work in recent decades, the method of post-production and will describe and explain it using numerous examples. It will also focus on the issue of low and high art and show that these categories have now lost their significance and try to defend contemporary visual culture and the art of post-production as legitimate cultural and artistic expressions.
The student will gain an overview of basic artistic and aesthetic theories. They will acquire the conceptual equipment needed to understand contemporary culture and art. Can argue independently. They will acquire the ability to understand texts and to argue and think independently within the theory of art and culture.
