Course content
The course consists of a series of tutorials directed towards elaboration of the topic and other relevant aspects of their essay, and then writing the essay. The essay's topic should be appropriately specific and narrow, it should overlap or be connected with an aspect of the student's dissertation, locate it within an appropriate philosophical context and deal with it mainly with help of philosophical tools. Some originality is expected both in the progress and the conclusions of the essay.

Learning outcomes
The aim is to help the students to adopt a wider, more philosophical point of view with regard to the topic of their dissertation. Besides, it tests the students' ability to reflect larger social, especially historical and cultural processes towards which their dissertation should be a contribution.
The student will get acquaninted with somewhat advanced philosophical work and results, and he will have some exercise in applying it himselve. That should increase his ability to read and study outside of his narrow area of expertise during his future professional career.

Students must pass through the series of initial tutorials and submit an essay; the essay must be evaluated as acceptable in two independent written reviews.
