Course content
Thematic plan of the course is following: 1. Introduction of the literary theory 2. The history and present of the theory of text and the literary theory 3. The basic triangle of the literary theory - overview 4. The author - psychoanalysis, theories focused on the author 5. Literary work - theories focused on the work 6. Formalism 7. The French and the Czech structuralism 8. The reader - theories focused on the recipient - overview 9. The Konstanz school of receptive aesthetics 10. The world of literature - history, development, transformations, tendencies and genres 11. The contemporary world literature 12. Contemporary Czech literature 13. Poetry 14. Author reading

Learning outcomes
The course will introduce to the students the literary theory and issue of interpretation of literary work. It will orientate them in the field of the world and the Czech literature and important present and past bookmen. The attention will be given to various genres and tendencies and the basic triangle of the literary theory the author - art work - the reader will be elaborated on in detail and as well as individual schools and tendencies focusing on one of mentioned parts. The attention will be then given to formalism and the French and the Czech structuralism, psychoanalysis as well as the Konstanz school of receptive aesthetics. The part of the course will be the author reading of a present Czech author and the possibility to visit the Leipzig Book Fair.
A student will gain the overview in basic literary and interpretation theories. He/she will develop the term basis needed for understanding of literary science and literature. He/she will be capable of independent argumentation. He/she will develop the ability to understand the texts and discuss and think independently about them.

The knowledge of main works of the world literature
