Course content
Topics: 1. New international order in Europe and the world 1918-1938. 2. Fascism and communism in interwar Europe. 3. The Munich crisis of 1938. 4. The Second World War and its consequences for the new international order. 5. The Cold War. 6. Consolidation of the Euro-Atlantic alliance. 7. Sovietization of Central and Eastern Europe. 8. Great Power Balance Strategy. 9. Military conflicts of the second half of the 20th century. 10. Transformations of détente in the 1960s-1980s. 11. Decommunization of Central and Eastern Europe. 12. Europe and the world at the beginning of the new millennium. 13. Culture and lifestyle after 1945.

Learning outcomes
Students will be obtain knowledge about political history in the wider international context in the 20th century, the lecture will focus mainly on the period after 1945. The lecture will focus on key events, facts, conflicts, international treaties and agreements, the emergence of superpower blocks that have European and international international politics. The main actors of this happening will be clearly recalled.
The student will be obtain the following knowledge and skills: - can interpret the periodization of modern European history of the 20th century - can characterize key events modern political history - can clarify the influence of basic historical changes in the 20th century to Czech (or Czechoslovak.) political history - will be able to explain the circumstances of the fall of communism in Europe - can use scholarly terminology

Independent work with scholarly texts and literature study will be required. The student completes the course on the basis of passing a written knowledge test.
