Learning outcomes
The Propaganda, Manipulation and Media course focuses on the manipulative and persuasive effects of the media in society, or the role of the media in this process. The aim of the course will be to present the historical effects of propaganda and manipulation and their roots. Subsequently, the interpretation will be devoted to current techniques that dominate public discourse, especially in the social media environment, and a critical approach to their operation.
The student is able to understand the meanings of manipulation, propaganda and persuasion through the media and is able to perceive current techniques emerging in society. They can characterize the influence of social media on these processes and approach them critically, or he knows how to defend himself against them.

Course Requirements for Successful Completion 1/ Presentation on an Assigned Topic A required component of the course is the preparation and presentation of an assigned topic within the scope specified by the instructor. The presentation is evaluated with a maximum of 30 points, based on the following criteria: quality of the academic treatment of the topic, use of sources and correct citation practices, structure and overall quality of the presentation, compliance with the given instructions and deadlines, submission of a handout in electronic form no later than the day of the presentation. The course cannot be successfully completed without delivering the presentation. 2/ Active Participation in Discussions An integral part of the course is active engagement in discussions during the presentations. The evaluation focuses particularly on: asking relevant questions, responding to classmates' presentations, continuous active participation during classes. A maximum of 10 points can be awarded for participation. Passive physical attendance is not considered active participation. Conditions for Successful Completion of the Course To successfully complete the course, students must obtain at least 20 points out of 40. Organizational Information The deadline for topic selection is 1 March 2026. The schedule of individual presentations will be finalized by the meeting on 5 March at the latest. Handouts must be submitted no later than the day of the presentation. All deadlines are final and cannot be extended. The course cannot be completed without delivering the presentation.
