Course content
Thematic plan of the course is following: 1. Introduction into the theory of visual arts 2. The history and present of the theory of visual arts 3. The basic triangle of the theory of art - overview 4. The author - theories focused on the author 5. Art work - theories focused on the work 6. Receptive theories 7. Focus on the role of beholder in the contemporary art 8. The story of the art 9. The contemporary art - world, Czech 10. Art world - history, development, transformations, tendencies and genres 11. Factors influencing the position of contemporary art - overview 12. Visual culture, postproduction 13. Interpretation and analysis of art work 14. Excursion

Learning outcomes
The course introduces in details to students to the theory of the visual art and the issues of the interpretation of the art work. It will give information in the field of the world and the Czech visual art and introduces to students to present and past artists. The awareness will be given to different kinds and styles and the basic triangle of the art theory author -art work - beholder will be explain in detail as well as individual schools and tendencies focusing on one of mentioned parts. The awareness will be given to formalism and structuralism, psychoanalysis and the Konstanz school of receptive aesthetics. The part of the course will be excursion to Ústí nad Labem House of Arts, Emil Filla Gallery or Hraničář.
A student will gain the overview in basic interpretation and hermeneutic theories and about the development of the visual arts. He/she will develop the term basis needed for understanding of the theory of art by the interpretation of the art work itself. He/she will be capable of independent argumentation. He/she will develop the ability to understand the visual art and its theory and discuss and think independently within the theory of art.
