Course content
Topics: 1. Introduction to records management and document management. What records management and document management represent, what areas it covers, what activities fall within it. 2. Theory, methodological concepts and key terms in the field of records management in its development in the 20th and 21st centuries. 3. Current developments and changes in the field of records management and document management in the Czech Republic and abroad. 4. Overview of basic legislation regulating the field of archives and records management. Analysis of Act No. 499/2004 on archives and records management, Decree No. 259/2012 Coll., on the details of the performance of records management, as amended, and Decree No. 645/2004 Coll., which implements certain provisions of the Act on Archives and Records Management and on amending certain acts. Their relationship to the practice of performing records management and document management. Methodologies used in the field of records management, document management and, consequently, archives. Overview and analysis of other legislative regulations with an impact on the records service and document management. 5. Document retention: Processes and activities implemented within the framework of document retention. Specifics of document retention in digital form in comparison with the retention of paper documents. 6. Document life cycle, document circulation in the records service at the originator. Requirements and legislative requirements for receiving documents, their registration, distribution, processing and storage. Internal records standards used in the practice of the records service. Problems in the real practice of managing the records service at the originators. 7. Document disposal and disposal procedure. Selection and evaluation of documents and archival materials. Preparation of a disposal proposal. Specifics of electronic disposal procedure and disposal of documents in electronic form.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the comprehensive theoretical and methodological basis of document management and records management, with key concepts, basic methods, current problems and issues, as well as the main trends in the field of document management and records management and, consequently, archival science as a whole, taking into account the fact that archival care for archival materials already stored in archives cannot be separated from the management of "living" documents by document originators. For this reason, the course covers both the area of archival care for "historical" documents, as well as the sphere of management of currently emerging documents, records services and so-called pre-archival care, especially for public-law originators. Last but not least, the course will also touch on the area of electronic documents and electronic document management. It will introduce the principles of electronic record management and the integration of electronic documents into regular office work, and therefore document management. The emphasis will be on the basic legal framework and set of legislative provisions related to the field of document management and records services. Students will be introduced to other important legislative regulations, including European standards (eIDAS, GDPR and others).
The student will gain a basic overview of the issues of records service in relation to archiving in the public interest and archival management. The student will have an overview of the basic legislation regulating the area of records service and archival management. He will be familiar with current developments and current trends in the area of records service and document management in the Czech Republic and in the world. The student will be familiar with methodological concepts and key terms in the area of records service in its development in the 20th and 21st centuries. He will have an overview of the topic of document disposal and shredding procedures. He will be familiar with the issues of selection and evaluation of documents and archival materials.

The course will be concluded with a certificate in the form of a credit test, or rather a written processing of a set of texts on the topic of the taught course.
