In this Bachelor thesis, I will analyze two early horror novels by Stephen King, Carrie (1974) and 'Salem's Lot (1975). Those two books were picked due to the distinctive treatments of evil, a significant aspect of the books' plots/narratives. In Carrie, evil is presented in the form of the influence of social environment upon an individual, in 'Salem's Lot it is the personification of evil and its influence over a small community. I will define how the author treats evil in each of these novels and analyze the circumstances under which the evil takes hold of situations or the characters. My aim for the thesis is to show that Carrie and 'Salem's Lot represent King's view of how evil works in different ways, through different agents, and under different circumstances.
